🏴☠️ Pirates? What pirates?

This weekend, I took my kids to RootedCON, the biggest cybersecurity gathering in Spain 🔐💻. Naturally, the event was full of discussions about hackers, their new attack methods, and how to protect ourselves.
⛵ In the past, pirates were only those who intercepted ships and stole their cargo at sea. Today, when we say "pirates," we usually think of cybercriminals. But in reality, there are many kinds of pirates in the modern world. Even if your company excels in cybersecurity, it might still be exposed to attacks from other types of pirates. ⚠️ In fact, the more innovative your company is, the more it attracts these filibusters.
Some pirates create fake websites and exploit your company’s reputation to divert your customers to their own pages. This can happen when they register a web domain very similar to yours or when they use a brand name that closely resembles yours.
Today's pirates not only steal but also manufacture ⚙️. They take advantage of the money and effort you've invested in designing or improving your product to produce cheap imitations. Others copy your code or develop software 💾 that is almost identical to yours.
You're probably protecting yourself against hackers and at least have an antivirus 🛡️—but who’s protecting your innovation, brand, and customer flow? Don’t forget about intellectual property pirates—they're the ones who steal your intangible assets. In fact, a good IP strategy goes hand in hand with a strong cybersecurity strategy. Sometimes, your IP rights can be your last line of defense after a data breach.
💡 There are strong protection solutions available:
✅ A Registered Trademark ® safeguards your reputation and online presence.
✅ A Patent protects your inventions and technical product improvements. Did you know that a patent can also protect an innovative software program 💾?
✅ There are many other types of protections, such as Registered Designs, Copyright ©, and more.
